What begins as a relaxing number puzzle can quickly become a serious battle against a crowded board.
A Simple Puzzle With Endless Challenges
The concept behind 2048 is straightforward. You play on a 4×4 grid containing numbered tiles. Each move shifts the tiles in one of four directions, and identical numbers combine when they meet.
Two 2 tiles become 4, two 4 tiles become 8, and the sequence continues:
2 → 4 → 8 → 16 → 32 → 64 → 128 → 256 → 512 → 1024 → 2048
The higher the numbers become, the more carefully you need to manage the available space.
How the 2048 Game Works
Every turn gives you an opportunity to improve your board, but it also creates another numbered tile. This constant addition is what makes the game increasingly difficult.
You can move the entire board:
Left to combine and organize tiles horizontally.
Right to shift numbers toward the opposite side.
Up to build combinations vertically.
Down to reorganize the lower part of the grid.
A move only changes the board when at least one tile can slide or merge. Once no legal movement remains, the game is over.
