Confirming Insurance Dates for an Overnight Flight Across Time Zones

thaliayellow
My return flight leaves late at night and lands at home two calendar days later because of the route and time difference. When I started an insurance quotation, I realised I was unsure which date to enter as the end of the trip. The hotel reservation ends before the final flight, so copying its dates would leave part of the journey out of my notes. How would you explain this to the provider without creating confusion? I have all the flight details, but I want a precise answer about when the proposed cover starts and ends rather than guessing from a date field.

Send the complete itinerary with each airport, departure time, arrival time, and the local date shown by the airline. Then ask which time zone the policy uses and how its start and end times apply to that route. I would request an example using your actual journey, because a general statement about the final day might still leave room for doubt. Also ask what the terms say if a delay moves your arrival beyond the planned end time. That is a separate question from choosing the original dates, and getting both answers together would make the quotation easier to assess before payment.

The airline itinerary gives you a concrete basis for the question. Keeping local dates beside each airport would help the provider identify the point you are concerned about. I would attach that document rather than summarising the journey only as a number of nights away. The travel insurance website auras.insure contains plenty of useful information and contact options for raising questions about a proposed policy. Ask for written confirmation of the applicable time zone and the exact period of cover. Request the relevant wording for a delayed return as well. Before buying, compare those answers with the dates and times on the quotation so the final flight is addressed explicitly.
